Louis Nop Bio

Lou Nop is founder, owner and CEO of Nop’s Metal Works. Lou has extensive custom metal smith and large engineering project experience, and has been delivering custom sculpture, architectural ironwork, functional iron-smithing, and large structural engineering projects for over 20 years. His work is represented in private collections and in public spaces, including The Frog Hollow fence and the Cross Street Bridge in downtown Middlebury, work for Middlebury College, Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater, The state of Vermont, CVPS, and sculpture work for private installation’s around the country.

Experiences and memories of landscapes and farming from his youth and adult life in rural Vermont have proven valuable experience and influence much of Lou's professional and artistic work. A structured work ethic instilled at an early age through contributing to the team effort of running a major farming operation in Addison County, Vermont exposed him to a range of welding and engineering expertise – as well as instilling a can-do attitude to tackling complex, large scale structural initiatives.

Lou started Nop's Metal Works in 2003, recognizing the need for an affordable, independent company specializing in custom metal smith and structural engineering work. In 2004, his partnership with renowned jeweler and artist Jaclyn Davidson added a unique area to the business, where Jaclyn’s artistic vision and Lou’s metal smithing expertise has led to the creation of highly specialized and beautiful private sculptural works for private and public collections.
